Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day.

To celebrate, we are highlighting a few of our initial GREATix nominees who have been recognised due to the kindness and respect they have demonstrated.

You can view some of their fantastic achievements below:

I was having a difficult time in my personal life which led me to shed a few tears. An EEAST colleague found me and was so incredibly kind. They comforted me, rang my manager, got me a cup of tea and helped me to calm down. This colleague had no idea who I was and we had never met before but she treated me like I was family and that's what was so special.

Bradley Scales, a paramedic based in Luton - I would like to recognise Brad for going above and beyond in his mentoring role. I’ve been lucky enough to have Brad as my mentor since May 2021 and he’s consistently helped and supported me with not only work related matters but also home related matters too. Brad has made my transition into the ambulance service as smooth as possible, ensuring that I have the support I need and giving me the confidence and high level of knowledge I need to develop in my role. He is always consistent, positive and has taken the time to get to know and understand me as a person. Brad has spent many hours listening and talking to my worries and needs and developing an action plan to support me, not only at work but also at home. Brad is a credit to the ambulance service and it will be sad not to have him as a mentor anymore, but I wish him all the best in his new role. Thank you for your continued support, understanding, patience and empathy.

Another member of staff was recognised with a GREATix when a family member of a colleague became unwell. This member of EEAST showed genuine care and compassion supporting their teammate and offering to help in whatever way possible.

Random Acts of Kindness Day is just one day of the year but perhaps you feel inspired to continue doing just one small act of kindness each day? Below are a few examples from the Random Acts of Kindness website:

Think of someone who brings joy and happiness into your life. Call, text or write them and let them know.

Reduce paper usage- You don’t have to print out that email, do you?

Compliment someone on their parking skills after a tricky manoeuvre.

Drink more water - When you’re healthy and energetic, it is much easier to be kind.

Have a judgement free day- Don't try to make yourself feel better by putting someone else down.
