Introduction of PolyAdva cannulas

Following the recall of the Becton Dickinson (BD) Venflon cannula, the Trust has introduced an alternative product, The Polysafety-Adva cannula.

The venepuncture procedure remains the same with the addition of quick visualisation of blood flow through needle along with catheter body confirms successful venepuncture.

If you are using a standard cannula (not a blood control or integrated model) you will need to apply digital pressure to the vein above the cannula, ensuring the cannula is also anchored and the needle is retracted. This prevents blood spillage.
