This week, Need to Know is introducing you to the Trust Board so that you can get to know the people behind the strategic decisions of the service, and their work to improve patient care.

Today's article is about our Chief Executive and Chair.

Chief Executive Anthony Marsh started his career in the ambulance service in 1987 working as an ambulanceman with the Patient Transport Service. For more than 25 years, he has worked his way up to become one of the leading ambulance service Chief Executives in the country and is currently Chairman of the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives.

He was Chief Executive of Essex Ambulance Service, where he led the organisation from being zero rated to a top performing three star Trust.  Other top positions he has held include roles within Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Hampshire Ambulance Services.  Anthony is currently Chief Executive of West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (WMAS) and is combining his role at East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust whilst continuing to be in charge of WMAS.

Anthony holds an MBA and an MSc in Strategic Leadership and was awarded an honorary Doctorate in 2012 for his work in Emergency preparedness.

Interim Chair Sarah Boulton has worked at NHS Board level for many years, chairing a number of NHS organisations, most recently as chair of NHS Midlands and East Strategic Health Authority. She has a background in business and finance having worked as a business and management lecturer and more recently as a management consultant advising on strategy, change and Board development.
