Working safely as Business As Usual (BAU) with seasonal respiratory illness including COVID-19:

  • Hand hygiene – must continue to always be promoted in clinical and non clinical settings.
  • PPE considerations o On site – optional to wear mask, consider if you or others have been or have any symptoms.
  • With patients – Risk assess and wear appropriate PPE – SICPs/TBPs (Standard and Transmission based infection control precautions).
  • RPE – Staff must continue to be fit tested for an FFP3 respirator or issued a hood. It is a legal requirement for staff members to be fit tested for the device they use when the situation requires them to.
  • Screens, working layout – local risk assessment, IPC team can assist.
  • Decontamination – Good practice to wipe down work area when finished using it.
  • Signage – Ensure any OOD signage e.g., instructions to LFT test, 2m distancing, mask wearing etc are removed in areas where this is no longer a requirement. Some signs such as wash your hands and wiping down your desk can remain as they are still relevant and will remain so.
