On Monday evening EEAST declared a Business Continuity Incident to allow us to manage the extreme pressure we were under after a high volume of calls and delays in handing over patients at hospitals.

Thanks to the hard work of all staff over the past two days we are now able to stand down from this status.

Tom Abell, Chief Executive of East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, said:

“Over the weekend and into Monday we saw a significant escalation of pressure on our service from both a sustained increase in demand, and significant handover delays at our hospitals. We made the decision to escalate the Trust to a business continuity incident to allow us to take further risk assessed actions to manage this pressure.

“Through the dedicated hard work and professionalism of all staff we are now able to stand down from this status. I would like to thank everyone who have been working tirelessly to meet the high level of demand we are currently facing.

“There will continue to be significant pressure on our service, which means further stress on us as a team and each individual. Please do continue to support each other, and please make use of the wellbeing support we have available."
