Let’s take action together for World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day Creating Hope Through Action Sept 10th

The International Association of Suicide Prevention reports that one in every 100 deaths worldwide is the result of suicide and it remains a global challenge.

World Suicide Prevention Day is held on Friday 10th September every year and sees organisations and communities worldwide, coming together to remind people that by raising awareness, reducing the stigma around suicide and encouraging well-informed action, together we can help to reduce this number.

There are many ways you can access support here at EEAST and our Wellbeing team have produced a handy leaflet which outlines them all. You can find it here and at the bottom of this article. In addition, the Samaritans have produced a leaflet for all Ambulance Service staff which offers guidance and advice for anyone experiencing the loss of someone to suicide. Again, you can find the leaflet at the bottom of this article.

On the day, Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust will be hosting a series of discussions based on the theme ‘From Grief To Hope.’ The virtual event is free to join and more details, including the full programme of sessions are available here.

Tom Abell, CEO, said

‘Whatever your role, as a member of the EEAST team your job can be challenging and pressurised and it’s really important that you know how to find help and support if you feel you or a colleague may need it. Our crisis line is accessible 24/7 and our wellbeing hub provides information on a variety of sources of support for any area of your life where you’re experiencing difficulties, whether that’s at home or in work.’

‘Our actions really can make a difference to people’s lives whether that’s a patient, colleague, friend of family member. It can be difficult to know if someone is struggling but being able to listen and sharing information about the support that is available is something we can all do.’
