Thursday 17th February - Leadership message from Emma De Carteret, Director of Corporate Affairs and Performance

Emma De Carteret

We took some time at our last Q&A to discuss the End of Shift pilot as we recognise that this remains a key challenge for many of you and it was good to hear that many of you are finding that it is beginning to have a positive impact (Click here to see the questions and answers) but we know there is more to do.  If you would like to be involved more in the trial or have ideas on how we can improve it further please email Rob Ashford who is leading this work across the Trust.

Please give us your views

Over the last few weeks some of you have raised the issue of the type of cannulas we use and we know that some of you would prefer to replace the existing ones. If you are HCPC-registered please fill in the survey, which is available here. We look forward to your feedback.

Thank you to everyone who has completed our bullying and harassment survey which closes at the end of February. We know that there have bee a number of survey requests recently but please share your thoughts and experiences so that we can continue to reduce this type of behaviour. We want to hear from people working in all parts of the Trust, staff, volunteers and students. You can complete the survey here.

Supporting all our people

In the UK, February is marked as LGBT+ History Month. This is an annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and non-binary history - including the history of LGBT+ rights and related civil rights movements – to raise understanding and to openness about sexuality and gender. We all want work for an organisation where people can bring their whole selves to work and where we are respectful and supportive of all our colleagues. Please look out for online celebrations and stories on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Living our values

Please make sure that you complete the values and behaviours training that is available on Evolve to help build a better place to work.

An important part of a manager’s role, too, is supporting their people in the workplace by understanding the Trust’s people policies and how to apply them effectively. The Managers’ Passport Training on Evolve is aimed at all supervisors, managers and LOMs. It aims to build your confidence as a manager covering important topics such as equality and diversity, dignity at work and supporting all aspects of managing teams.

EEAST goes electric

We have successfully bid for £250,000 from NHS England which will fund two electric Skoda all-wheel drive cars, an electric Vauxhall van for a 12 month pilot.

One of the Skodas will be used as a ‘standard’ Rapid Response Vehicle (RRV). The second will be used in a similar role in conjunction with our other blue-light partners (RAF, Fire and Police), first in Bedfordshire, but later in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Essex.

More information on the pilot is available here.

Recognising random Acts of Kindness

As you may have seen on Need to Know, we recently replaced Hidden Gems with the Greatix system which not recognises, values and celebrates staff who have done outstanding work, but means the Trust benefits from learning what went well to incorporate this into future practice. Thank you to everyone who has nominated a colleague using Greatix. This week sees Random Acts of Kindness Day on 16th February and on Need to Know you can read about those colleagues who have been nominated for Greatix for showing kindness to colleagues.
